A Local’s Guide to Hiroshima’s Nightlife: Meet the Spirit of the City at Bar Little Happiness

Experience Hiroshima through the eyes of a native owner and a collection of 1,000 bottles.

When you visit Hiroshima, are you looking for just another bar, or a place where the city’s heart beats? If you prefer a locally-rooted sanctuary over a generic chain, we invite you to step into Bar Little Happiness.

Born and Raised in Hiroshima I am Mika Tanimoto, the owner and bartender. I was born and raised right here in Hiroshima. I opened this bar in 2006 at the age of 22, and for nearly two decades, I have been welcoming guests across this counter in the Nagarekawa district.

People often say Hiroshima locals are “obsessively dedicated” to their crafts. I might be a perfect example of that. My passion for whisky and rum has led me to curate a collection that now exceeds 1,000 bottles.

More Than a Menu: Your Local Insider While guidebooks are helpful, there is a “real-time” atmosphere of Hiroshima that only a local can share. At Bar Little Happiness, you can ask me anything:

  • “What are the most interesting bottles from Hiroshima’s own Sakurao Distillery?”
  • “Where is the best local restaurant that isn’t just a tourist trap?”

I want my guests to discover the authentic side of the city, away from the noise of internet advertisements. Whether you are a solo traveler or visiting a bar for the first time, you are more than welcome here.

A Passion for the Craft My collection has become a destination for enthusiasts from all over the world. Whether you are looking for a rare Japanese whisky or a hidden gem from a local craft distillery, I have selected every bottle with a specific “heat” and passion.

For those who may not be whisky experts yet, we offer gentle, localized options like our Setouchi Rum cocktail mixed with homemade lemon honey—a true taste of our region.

A “Perch” for Travelers As a traveler myself who has visited distilleries across Japan and the world, I understand the desire to “taste the local culture” when visiting a new place. One flight of stairs up from the bustling streets of Nagarekawa, you will find a different world in shades of amber.

I look forward to being your “perch” in Hiroshima—a place to rest, discover, and create lasting memories over a glass of something special.
