The Ardbeg Committee — founded in 2000 — is one of the whisky world’s most famous fan communities. Each year, Ardbeg releases a limited Committee bottling: cask strength, unchillfiltered, no colouring, exploring a specific dimension of the distillery’s character. Smokiverse treats peat not as a single flavour, but as a universe of chemical compounds: phenols, guaiacols, cresols — each contributing differently to the experience of smoke.
The Science of Ardbeg’s Peat
Smokiverse was designed to explore how different peat types, different exposure levels during malting, and different cask environments interact to create Ardbeg’s particular smokiness — not just heavy, but layered and paradoxically sweet. This is Ardbeg’s signature paradox: intense peat alongside genuine fruit and sweetness. Smokiverse makes that paradox its subject.
Mika’s Perspective
What I find most interesting about Smokiverse is the intellectual ambition — using an annual release as an opportunity to teach something real about smoke chemistry. The whisky underneath the concept is genuine Ardbeg: that layering of sweet and smoky that seems impossible but is consistent across every serious expression they make.
